November

I love the month of November because it's the month of Thanksgiving, which means that all month long I get to reflect on what I am thankful for. My life is so incredibly blessed, so I have no end of things I am thankful for; from my family to hot water. As most people do this time of year, I am doing the thing where you say one thing you are thankful for every single day, which has been a lot of fun. When I start thinking about things I am thankful for, I start thinking about all my blessings, and sometimes it overwhelms me.

I can't believe how blessed I am. What have I ever done in my life to deserve what I have now? The more I count my blessings, the more I feel unworthy of having them all. I was thinking about this while I was sitting in church on Sunday and I just started crying. (Dang pregnancy hormones) I have the most amazing husband who loves me unconditionally, even when I'm sure I don't deserve it. He makes our marriage so fun and almost effortless, feeling, because he is so positive and humorous about things. I also have this adorable daughter who brings more joy into my life than I ever thought was possible. She brightens up rooms by her cute little personality and smiles, and I can't help but wonder at my good fortune that Heavenly Father would entrust her sweet little spirit to me. Knowing that makes me even more excited about this little boy in my belly.

I am thankful for my home, that we can come home and feel the spirit and be uplifted.
I am thankful for my country
I am thankful for the Army because they provide Dan with a stable job, which is more than most can say.
I am thankful for modern technology that helps me keep in touch with family.
I am thankful for my friends and family, without whom I would be lost.
I am thankful for the church and the absolute truth it provides.
I am thankful for the priesthood and the First Presidency.
I am thankful for forgiveness.
I am thankful for sweat pants (less serious, but just as important in my opinion)
....

The list could go on for days. So, count your blessings and I'm sure you, too, will be surprised.

adventures of buying a minivan

Meet our new car. We went to just go look at some different cars on Saturday and ended up buying a minivan instead.  We knew going in that we wanted something with 3 rows because we didn't want to have to buy another car for quite a while, and something that seats 7 should last us forever. But, I have NEVER been a minivan person. Ask anyone. So, I was thinking of something more like an explorer or tahoe, but this Kia was such a great deal and was such a pleasure to drive, that we simply could not pass it up. She is a 2010 and only has 53,000 miles on her, and she was in her our price range, so we were sold. This was seriously the best car we found for the money we were willing to spend.

Down side:
When I went to test drive the van, it was dead, so they had to jump the battery. They assured me this was no big deal and we went on with our day. After 6 hours at the dealership, we finally went home with our new purchase and were feeling pretty good about our situation. Come Sunday, however, we were starting to maybe rethink things a little because that morning the van wouldn't start. Not only would it not start but it was also blocking our lemon into the garage so we couldn't use either car. Perfect. As the day went on, the van became more and more dead until finally it wouldn't make any noise at all. So, you know how they assured me the battery was fine? Yeah, they lied. Luckily, they towed it back to the dealership, fixed it, and gave it back without me having to pay for anything.

Now, here is where the story gets truly, truly tragic. As soon as Evie and I got home today from getting the car, I somehow managed to lock the keys, my phone, and Evie in the van. Complete panic. I obviously have no clue how to work this new car and I cannot even describe to you how mortified I was that I locked my precious baby girl, my life, my world, in this black van. So, I ran to every house on the block until I found someone who was home and he came out to help me. We spent quite a while trying to get it unlocked by ourselves, see evidence below, but to no avail. Finally he let me use his phone and I called a locksmith.

chipped paint from where we were prying the door open to get a hanger in. I was about 5 min away from smashing the window.
It took the locksmith about 10-15 min to get there, and by that time Evie was soaked in sweat and screaming. My heart was utterly broken. And then, like a knight in shining armor, the locksmith guy careens into our driveway (I told him to hurry repeatedly), jumped out of the car, and unlocked the door. It took all of 5 seconds for him. My hero. Never in the history of the world has someone pulled a child out of a carseat as fast as I did. I was so relieved to be holding her in my arms and that she was safe, they I immediately started crying. The nice locksmith guy didn't charge me anything (I would guess because of my embarrassing tears and Evie's adorable, sweaty face), but my neighbor took it upon himself to give him $40 anyways. I don't even know how to begin to thank these nice people. Without them, who knows how this would have turned out? Actually, I know. It would have ended with a broken window and a traumatized baby. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful and charitable people and the only thing I can think of to do is to repay my neighbor and make them both brownies or something.

So, that's my story. In case you were wondering, I stripped Evie down to her diaper, turned on the a/c and mickey mouse, had her drink some water, and she was as good as new. I'm sure glad it's over.

blog challenge: day 2/ Mother's Day

All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother.  ~Abraham Lincoln
Mother's Day is such a great day because it gives us the opportunity to lavish our mothers with affection and gifts. I have so much to be thankful for on a day like today. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to be a mother. What a great gift and a great responsibility. I take comfort in knowing that heavenly father would not have sent Evelyn to me if he didn't think I could take care of her the way she deserves. I think he has more faith in me than I do, though. I am thankful for my wonderful husband who made me dinner so that I wouldn't have to, and also did the dishes. Be still my heart! He can only cook a handful of things, and one of those things is steak, so I got an enormous steak for mother's day. I swear, it was as big as my head. I am thankful for our sweet stake president who is so in tune with the spirit that he always seems to know exactly what I need to hear at that moment to lift me up and make me feel special. I am so, so thankful for our ward and the wonderful people in it. This ward really goes all out for mother's day. We each got a giant symphony chocolate bar, which are my absolute favorite, and had all the young women and elder's quorum take care of all the classes so we could go to Sunday school and Relief Society. It was great. During Relief Society, the bishop and stake president gave talks about how amazing we are, then they fed us all kinds of yummy treats. I certainly felt special and loved, so mission accomplished. I loved mother's day this year and I feel so loved and appreciated.

Quick Update

Dan and I are back in Manhattan as of 11pm last night. We spent two wonderful weeks in Wichita with my parents while he did his internship and then one glorious week in Utah at his family's cabin. Let me tell you, that is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and I cannot wait to go back. (An entire cabin update with pictures is forth coming). All the traveling we had to do since Saturday has really taken a tole on us, especially me, so today I am trying to just relax and settle back into life here in Man-happenin.

K-State started school today and it feels incredibly weird that I am not one of the eager students bustling their way to class today. I kind of miss it. But, then again, I also kind of like knowing that I have paid my dues and am now able to move on to a greater and more important phase in my life. So, thank you Kansas State for giving me a degree. It is something that I have always put as a priority and have striven for, for most of my life. I am so blessed. I miss the college lifestyle, but I am also very excited for what is in store for me now and where life will take me.

I am so blessed to have incredible parents, grandparents, and in-laws. I can't imagine my world without them. I feel like I now have so much support and loving guidance that there's no way I could possibly go astray, no matter how hard I might try. Being able to spend three weeks with family was such a blessing and definitely something I needed desperately at this time in my life. So, thanks family. I love you all.

And, have I mentioned lately how amazing Dan is? I love him, so much. No one knows me better or takes care of me the way he does and I will be eternally grateful for him and all he does. I couldn't be more happy that I am able to be with him forever. What a great life choice I've made!

Cabin

3 days until we go to the CABIN!!!! Yay!
fishing, hiking, horseshoes, swimming, board games, good food, and great company. I couldn't be more excited!

My best friend, Kasie, is flying in today, so I get to play with her all day tomorrow! Woot!

Also, Tommy and Chelsea's open house is tomorrow and that is crazy exciting because there will be... Dancing!! Something you may not know about Dan and I: we love to dance. If there is good music playing, Dan will just grab me and start dancing. I remember one time in the airport, there was an Elvis song playing and so Dan simply grabbed me and we danced in the airport. We are incredibly romantic. Or weird. Take your pick.

So many fun things to look forward to. What are you looking forward to?

These are a few of my favorite things

Meet The Lemon. She is precious to me. Her and I have bonded a lot over this summer because I am really the only one who drives her. Today, I was driving home with all the windows down, because our AC is still out of commission, when the old song "Good Vibrations" came on. You know the one I'm talking about. Classic. So naturally, I turn the music way up and rock out to it in my car. Those are the moments I love the most. Oh, Lemon. How I adore you and the happiness you bring me.

Meet Kasie Fry. She lives in Utah now, but she used to be my roommate for a good portion of my college career and is my very best friend. She is coming to Kansas next month and I couldn't be more excited to see her! This also brings me much joy and happiness.

Meet 10am. This is the time that I like to get up in the morning. Much rejoicing.

Meet Judy and Ray. They are my bosses until tomorrow, when sadly, I have to leave and enter the real world and get a grown up job. Sad. They are two of the sweetest people I have ever known and I got to work there at the best job a student could have.

Meet this guy. He is my happiness.

twenty-three

Well, my birthday was yesterday. I have to say, this was one of the best birthdays I have ever had. A huge part of it being amazing was that Dan was actually here for it. This is the first time in three years that he's been here on my birthday, so he really went all out.

The day started with my mom driving up to Manhattan and taking me to eat here. Delic. I had the tilapia and it was incredible. Then, I went to see this with my mom, Kim, and Katee. It came out on my birthday and so I figured I should see it on my birthday. Ha! It was so much fun! I love those girls. My mom had to go home after that, but I went over to Katee's for a little while and we had some root beer floats and some girl talk. LOVE that woman. She made me this.
Yum

The absolute best part of the day was Dan's present. He is so adorable. He set up a game show and had me play to see what my presents were.

What the game looked like:

I had to choose which option to uncover and I could either keep that option or sideline it so I could see what the other options were. Obviously, I wanted to see all of the options and I did get to keep everything. :) So creative!

first present:
Chocolate!!

second present:
dinner and a movie of my choice

third present:
I get to plan a trip to anywhere I want in the continental U.S. for a week in September! So many possibilities.

what I won for playing:
So that we can take pictures wherever and whenever we want. I am calling him Albert the Photographer.

After I won all my prizes I attached my camera to Albert and had a really good time figuring out all the different ways to take pictures. :)

I love Dan.
