northwest river park

This tree was weird. Made us laugh

Random bear carving that was tied to a tree, which also made us laugh. Cutie girl having fun.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by.

finally made it to the river. It was beautiful

We are so lucky to live in Virginia, and we don't take advantage of it often enough. It is so, so beautiful here. We only scratched the surface today of what this park offers. Next time we will rent a paddle boat and go putt putt golfing.

father's day and the exploding sink

Happy father's day to all the father's in my life!I cannot believe how blessed I am to have such amazing men in my life, and I owe a lot of who I am today to these wonderful men. Namely, my dad, my father-in-law, and of course my husband.

Today, overall, was pretty uneventful. We went to church and heard some great talks about fathers, then Dan got some cookies from the YW, and then we came home. For dinner, Dan grilled some yummy stakes and I made mashed potatoes (from scratch) and veggies. Everything was great and he loved all of his presents. And then something terrible happened.

The something terrible was this; while I was doing the dishes, the pipe under the sink came unlatched and filthy disgusting disposal water gushed forth and covered the entire kitchen floor.

Scenario:
I am making chocolate muffins as a treat for Dan while he is out home teaching. Evie is playing on the floor and watching me. Once I am done with said muffins and they are safely in the oven, I turn my attention to the many dishes. As I am rinsing everything off and turning on the disposal, something snaps and a waterfall of brown disgusting water gushes out from underneath the sink and covers the whole kitchen in a matter of seconds. I immediately turn off the water and high tail it to get some towels. I get back just in time to see my poor daughter trying to crawl away from the mess and slipping and sliding all over the place. She was pretty unhappy about the whole situation. So, I throw all the towels I could find on the pool in my kitchen and run Evie upstairs for a much needed bath. Once she is down for the night, I go back downstairs and resume cleaning the stupid mess, and let me tell you, it was disgusting. By the time Dan got home from home teaching, I was in tears, on my knees in the kitchen, trying my best to mop up all the water. Not the best father's day present, but certainly memorable. The worst part is, those muffins were gross and totally not worth the effort.

riddle me this

How is it that Dan us allowed to spend all our money on me, but I'm not allowed to get him anything for father's day? Double standard. He's spending a small fortune on me for my birthday, still don't know what the present is, but he won't let me buy him anything. And I'm thinkin, that doesn't work for me. So, I think I will buy him lots and lots of fishing equipment, Sherlock Holmes movie, an electric hedge trimmer, and call it a day. That makes us even right? Can't wait until tomorrow so I can do some serious shopping!

June

I love, love the month of June, but I especially love it this year because it brings with it so many exciting things. Namely; my birthday, fathers day, and the visit from Dan's parents. We are so excited! Dan has already started planning all the fun things he wants to do while they're here, and he took off like 4 days from work so he could spend some quality time with them and me. He won't tell me what my present is, but I know its way too expensive. If you talk to him, could you tell him to just get me a card instead? Thanks. I am planning on giving Dan all the fishing stuff he needs before his dad gets here. Happy fathers day, love!

The only downer to all of this, is that June is also the last month we will see each other until September. Dan is off to san Antonio again for training, so I am going to go visit family while he's away. Army is mean like that. Here's to the greatest month of the year!

I went running today

And now I remember why I never run. Seriously, never. But, I've hit a stale mate with the weight loss, so I needed to change something. My dear husband, being the great man that he is, has made me a work out schedule, and I am going to try my best to stick to it. If I don't die first. My muscles and joints are so sore already that I'm not sure how I'm going to walk tomorrow.

Happy memorial day! We went to a ward picnic that was a lot of fun, but was also really, really hot. It's so muggy and humid here that it feels like you're wearing a heating blanket around you when you step outside. So gross. Other than that, it was great. The food was Yummy and the company was excellent.

Today I am thankful for air conditioning. I'm such a wuss when it comes to heat, so I know I would never have survived as a pioneer. I am so happy that I can blast the ac in my car as soon as I get in it, and that my house it always a cool and comfortable temperature.

day 5

Today I am thankful for my house, even though is consistently a mess. It's nice to have the space for evie to roam and play, and for me to get away when I need to. We have been so incredibly blessed financially, its ridiculous. Being able to afford rent for this beautiful house is just one of many ways we are seeing the blessings from Tithing. So, I guess today I am actually thankful for Tithing. I know when you keep the commandments, the lord does bless you, and that is evident in my life daily.

I'm terrible at this

So, I made a challenge for myself and than promptly failed at said challenge. I'm not sure what, exactly, that says about me. Nothing good, I'm sure. I suppose I could ignore the fact that I've missed like four days in a row and just keep on truckin anyway. Actually, that sounds pretty good; I'm going to do that.

Today I am thankful for Dan. That sounds mundane, I know, but hear me out. Today when he got home he gave me a big kiss and hug, took evie away from being attached to my leg, and entertained her while I cooked. Then, he proceeded to wait to eat until I had finished feeding evie so that he could eat with me. After some more play time, we gave eves a bath and Dan protected me from the viscious water monster that got him completely soaked. Then, he put her to bed and helped me with the dishes. I am so spoiled. He is so amazing and I am thankful every single day for all the small acts of kindness that he does to show how much he loves me. Someone must have raised him right.

On a side note, know what I am not thankful for? That Dang bird that won't stop tapping on the door in our bedroom. It is driving me insane. Every single morning and every time I'm trying to take a nap, there's this tap, tap, tapping on the glass of that door. Ergh. I don't usually feel violent toward animals, alligators excluded, but I would like to throttle that bird. Why is he so stupid?
