Snow!

We finally got our first snowfall of the year yesterday and today. I love the snow. Seriously. However, our car is broken, and since we still don't have the money to fix it, I can't drive to school at all. So, today as I was walking to class, I crossed the road because the sidewalk on the other side looked a lot clearer than the one I was currently trudging along. As I got to the other side, and in an effort to get out of the way of cars, I tried to jump over the pile of snow that was there from the plow machine thing. Anyway, I failed miserably. I sunk knee deep into the snow, lost my balance, fell forward, and had to crawl out before I could stand up again. It was pretty embarrassing, but mostly hilarious. I laughed at myself and then another girl did the same thing right after I did, so I helped her out. All in all, a pretty awesome morning. haha.

Side note: Isn't he the best? I just love him and this is only 1 of the million reasons why.

'Tis the Season

So, our Thanksgiving Break was great. We were able to go down to Wichita and spend it with my parents, Lianne and Derek. Unfortunately, everyone forgot to take pictures. On Thursday we had our gorgeous and delicious meal, were comatose for a while, and then went to see New Moon, which was worth seeing because of Dan's reaction. My mom and I went shopping on Friday and had a blast and spent WAY too much money. Then, on Saturday we all went to the Temple in Oklahoma City. I think that was my favorite part. I haven't been able to go with my mom since my wedding day, so that was a blessing. It was vitally important that Dan be back at the house by 4pm so he could watch the BYU vs. Utah game, so we were. Such a weirdo. He was ecstatic that they won, and all was right in the Christensen's home. And, that was our Thanksgiving! I couldn't be more thankful for my family, my amazing husband, our life together, and most especially Joey, Pippin, and Izzy (Joey is my parent's dog, Izzy and Pippin are Lianne and Derek's dogs).

Dan had a great birthday. Just look at him. Cute boy. Unfortunately, that whole week was insane with school and what not, but we still managed to celebrate a little.

We have started putting up our Christmas decorations! Great huh? I thought so, and we are really proud of our tree. We picked it out, cut it down, and put lights on it, all on our own. ;)

I love this time of year

So, today it snowed for the first time this season. I walked outside this morning to walk to school and I almost peed I was so excited! I got to finally wear my winter coat, scarf, ,gloves, and my super cute boots. I LOVE LOVE winter! And winter clothes! Christmas movies, snowball fights, snow soccer, hot chocolate, comfy pajamas, warm blankets, spending time with family, all of this happens this time of year. How can you not just LOVE it!? Anyways, that is my spiel. I hope everyone else is enjoying this as much as I am.

In a Rut

I need a new show to watch. My good friend Anna told me about FlashForward, which let me tell you is awesome, so I'm watching that. Unfortunately, however, this show is on the same night as ALL of my other shows. Which defeats the purpose. Dan and I are loving Community (thanks Blaire) and I love Grey's Anatomy and Dollhouse, but those are on Thursdays and Fridays. So, out of complete boredom, does anyone have any new cool shows that they watch that I can get in on? My favorites have all been canceled recently, i.e. Pushing Daisies, Chuck, and I am a girl who loves to watch her shows on her computer while doing homework. Help me out if you can!

P.s. This is a little incomplete, I am also OBSESSED with Glee.

Family

We finally got to go home this last weekend. It was so much fun! I spent the whole day on Saturday hanging out with my mom and shopping. For Sunday my mom was asked to think of an experience to share about her mother in Relief Society. She was having a really hard time. Our lesson in RS was amazing and all about families and stuff and it just made me think about mine a little more. Everyone in my family brings something unique to the table and it just would not be the same without them. Also, it got me thinking about my mom and how thankful I am to have her. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher, role-model, and friend. So, because my mom had to think a lot about her mom, I thought a lot about her. She taught me etiquette, how to cook, how to clean, how to treat others, how to study, how to write, how to be loving, and the list goes on. I can't even describe how much love there was in our home growing up because of my mom and for that I will be eternally grateful. She is my best friend and the person I want to be the most like. She is my hero.

Mom- Mediator and Chores giver

Dad- Story reader and dishes-doer

Chris- Protector and Hugger

Jill- Peace maker and Ego booster

Justin- Comedian and Fight defuser

Lianne- Thoughtful and Forgiver of evils (mostly mine)

I am so thankful for my family. I can't believe how blessed I am. I won't even talk about Dan cause that would be WAY too mushy and gross.

Surprise!

So this last weekend was our fall break and General Conference. Needless to say, we were really excited about it. The plan was to go to Wichita and spend our long weekend at home with my parents. We were all REALLY excited about it. However, on Thursday I started feeling even more sick than usual, with a fever and everything, but I tried to blow it off. I felt even worse on Friday so Dan made me go to the doctor to see what was up. Low and behold, I had the swine flu. No joke. So, that sucked. Not only was I terribly sick but we couldn't go see my parents because I didn't want to get them sick. So so sad. Apparently because I have mono, my immune system is shot. Because of this I am more prone to get other viruses and infections. Fun right? My loving doctor told me this after we went in, and then added that it was really just a matter of time before I got the flu. Wow, thank you. That would have been nice to know. lol. Anyways, our weekend was just fine though, minus all the sickieness, because Dan really went out of his way to make it fun for me cause I was so bummed about not going home. He is seriously the best husband or man anyone could ask for. We are going home this weekend instead and I plan on not being sick then. Fingers crossed.

Other than that our life is pretty boring and we love it. Dan has been able to play basketball and soccer a lot the last couple of weeks so he's floating on cloud 9 right now. My brother, Justin, and his wife just had another beautiful baby girl named Camryn that I can't wait to meet! If she's anything like Elliette she'll be the most perfect baby of all time.

Oh, in case you were wondering, Dan is definitely not getting sick. We're pretty sure he's immune to the flu. And all other ailments. He's like superman.

Illnesses and Tests

Well folks, I have mono. It's very sad considering how much I need to get done. Now, I have to cut every day in half and make sure I sleep enough. sheesh.

Dan and I have developed a new, completely unhealthy, obsession with the show Hell's Kitchen. We just HAVE to keep watching! What is going to happen next? Did that seriously just happen? It's intense. For our date last night, we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant and spent the rest of the night cuddled up watching Hell's Kitchen. Oh so much fun.

Unfortunately, because I'm sick, my doctor has me on a strict diet. I'm supposed to be eating light foods like toast and oatmeal, but I cheat as often as I possibly can. When Dan isn't looking, I'll eat a whole pizza cause I'm so hungry, but I'll regret it almost instantly because my stomach gets so upset. Whatever, worth it. So, eating Mexican food wasn't a very good idea, but it was completely worth it. Delicious! A person can only eat so much oatmeal, so sometimes I step out on my "special diet". The really lame thing about having mono is that I'm sick all the time but I don't get out of any school for it! I'm supposed to be getting lots of rest, but how can I when I have to constantly be working. This is my dilemma.

Dan has a test this Friday and then 2 on the following Monday, so he's stressing a little. Vet school tests are really hard, so I hope he does okay. I have a german test on Monday that I'm pretty nervous about and I hope I can do well on that.

We got to go to the temple last Saturday with our good friends Geoff and Jessica. That was a lot of fun. It's kind of a funny story actually. We were supposed to be going to Omaha to the Winter Quarters Temple because that is our closest one, but because we've all been so busy we forgot to call until the day we were going. Whoops. So, we call the temple to set up an appointment and they're closed. Ha! What are the odds? In spite of this, we make an executive decision to go to the Oklahoma City temple instead. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is. Omaha is about 3 hours away, so that is a really long day, but the OKC temple is like 4 1/2 hours away. That was a REALLY long day. We left at 9 in the morning and got back that night at 11. It was fun though and we're really glad we got to go.

Geoff and Jessica at Olive Garden. Yay temple!! I would have put the picture of Dan and I after this, but it was a REALLY bad picture. We were tired.

That's pretty much all that has been going on with us lately. Football season has started so we're watching as many BYU games as we can. Dan might cry if we don't.

Update

School just started and we're both pretty sure we're going to die. Yeah.
These last couple of weeks could not have been more stressful and ridiculous. Hopefully our life settles down soon.
We LOVE our new apartment. It is such an improvement from the last one. I even decorated it! Yay!

The thing I keep saying over and over for comfort/ our theme lately:
If it wasn't this, it would be something else.

Love you all!

Honeymoon

So, after almost 5 months of being married we finally went on our honeymoon! It was so much fun!

On Monday we drove up to St.Louis and arrived at our hotel exhausted. I got a really great deal on a hotel from hotwire.com, but even knowing that is was a 4 star hotel didn't prepare us for what we saw. It was completely our of our league. Seriously. We weren't sure if we were supposed to be there or not, but we stayed there. Amazing. So, because we were so tired we really didn't do much on Monday except watch TV.

On Tuesday we went to the Gateway Arch and the Botanical Gardens. I think the arch was our favorite thing. It was so much fun! The gardens were beautiful and the cod fish pond was Dan's favorite. They were all different colors and would come right up to you hoping for some food. haha.

We're in the top of the arch here, looking out the windows

On Wednesday we went to the temple in St. Louis. Not a whole lot to say on that except that is was beautiful and we loved it.

On Thursday we went to the Zoo. The zoo there is free and you can tell. The animals are pretty scarce but there are tons and tons of shops. It felt more like a theme park. But, we had a lot of fun and the bears and penguins were by far our favorite.

On Friday we checked out, sad, and made the drive back to Manhattan and spent the whole rest of the day moving into our new, amazing, beautiful, apartment. We are REALLY excited about it. As soon as I'm done with it i'll take pictures and show everyone. You should come visit.

Stevo

Oh boy do I have a story! My mom and I went down to Nauvoo this past Thursday and Friday for one of my best friend's wedding. It was amazing. I love Nauvoo. We came back to my apartment on Friday and my mom stayed the night. Well, my mom snores, so I was sleeping on the couch. No biggie. Until I woke up because of a clap of thunder and decided that I was uncomfortable so I started walking back to the bedroom when all the sudden something hits my head. So, at this point I'm thinking what the heck? I continue walking forward assuming that I am just tired and delirious when I feel wind in my face and something flies over my head. At this point I know i'm not just tires and delirious. Before you ask, no I didn't scream. Words can't describe how proud I am of how not scared I was. So I go back into the bedroom, sit down on the bed, wake up my mom, and tell her that we have a bat in my apartment. She freaks and opens the door just a crack so see if she can see it. Surely enough, little Stevo is still flying around the living room and she saw him too. The next morning we looked everywhere for him, but we couldn't find him. Oh well right? On Saturday night I left my bedroom door shut and all the lights on in the rest of the apartment, so I never saw him. When I went to church on Sunday I left all the lights off in the apartment out of habit, so guess who I found when I got home from church? None other than my little bat friend Stevo. He was hanging from the ceiling against a wall. Cute little guy. I see him when I walk him, freeze momentarily, back up a little, and call Dan. Poor Dan is trying to tell me the proper way of catching a bat and wanting to make sure I put gloves on and cover up my exposed skin. I think he may have even asked me if I had a snow suit. I don't, by the way. After opening the front door and throwing things at him failed, I called our good friend James to come and help me. James succeeded in trapping Stevo and we rejoiced thinking the whole thing was over. Boy was I wrong. I guess I don't know my Husband quite as well as I should. Dan insisted that we bring Stevo to the vet school to get it checked for rabies. At this point, I'm pretty upset. He has sufficiently scared me to tears talking about rabies and how I didn't even need to be bitten by a bat to get it and because he's been in the apartment for a couple days it's good to check. So, we take Stevo to the vet school thinking that I am going to die a slow and painful death from rabies, which isn't probably true, and we're a little shaken up, James, Steph, and I that is. I haven't heard from the lab yet whether or not Stevo has potentially killed me, but I seriously doubt it. The moral of the story is this: Don't marry a man who is going to be a vet because if you ever come in contact with any animal, inevitably he will tell you about some disease said animal is probably carrying and will make you worry and run lab tests. On the other hand, he is gone which makes him more protective, and I actually find it cute. Mostly.

This is our little Stevo. He's sleeping. No matter what I threw at him he didn't wake up.

This is James being my hero. Stephanie was waiting outside because she's pregers and Dan scared us all so bad about rabies that we wouldn't let her come in.

Dan comes home tomorrow!!!!
And have I mentioned lately how much I hate this apartment? 10 fold now. Yay we're moving on Friday!

Move Out!

This last week I've been concentrating on just packing up our apartment. I wanted to get as much done as possible before Dan gets home because we only have a couple days to move when he does get home. Yay!! New apartment! Woot! My husband is back in 9 days!!! Single digits baby.

I'm watching Music and Lyrics with my mom. She has a huge thing for Hugh Grant. And, so do I, let's be honest. I love my mom. She's hysterical.

I helped my dad take down the dish off our roof this afternoon. My dad is now in his 60's, so I was nervous the whole time and held his ankles as well as the ladder to make sure he didn't fall off. haha. Love him.

Getting the oil changed on our baby for the first time on Monday. I may take pictures. Awww.

So.... that is what has been going on!

Last couple of weeks

So over the 4th of July weekend I got to go down to San Antonio and spend the weekend with Dan. It was amazing and just what we needed. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch on the riverwalk and wandered around the mall after that. We then ordered pizza and watched a movie. A seriously perfect day. The next day we went down for the complimentary breakfast, which was awesome, and then went back to the riverwalk, walked around for a while and watched the new transformers movie. On Sunday we went to church together and then I had to leave. Sad. It was seriously an amazing weekend. For my birthday Dan wrote me a long, sweet letter. It was the best birthday present ever combined with actually being able to be with him and have him read it to me. So nice.

For my actual birthday, my friend Jennifer took me to Worlds of Fun. It was a blast! My mom made me my traditional fried chicken and I ended up getting lots of books. So exciting! I love books and reading. I'm reading Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson that my wonderful mother-in-law sent me.

As most of you know, I was called as assistant camp director. So.... camp was this last week. It was a lot of fun, but mostly it was a lot of work. Looking back on my girls camp experience now I appreciate more what my leaders did for me and how much work they put into it. I think total I got 6 hours of sleep through 3 nights. 2 storms and some girl drama makes for little sleep. But, I'm resting now and feeling great.

Only 17 days until my Husband comes home.

Separation Anxiety

So, Dan has been gone for 3 Sundays now. I'm counting the Sundays and not the weeks for two reason. Reason first: Because he left on a Sunday and Reason second: Because I miss him the most on Sundays. When I finally get through the whole Sunday and it's Monday morning I feel rather proud of myself and mark another horrible day off the calendar. Most days I sit around after work watching Grey's Anatomy on dvd. It's pathetic, I know, but what else is there to do? Seriously, my life is very boring. So, to liven things up a bit, i've been going back and forth from my parent's house in Wichita to my apartment in Manhattan. This has been keeping me busy somewhat and it's been nice to be around people.

On Thursday I'm leaving for Dallas for the 4th of July. Dan's boot camp isn't like other basic training because he's technically in Officer training, so they get that weekend off! So, guess whose going to San Antonio? ME! From Dallas I'll drive down to San Antonio on Friday and spend the weekend with my hubby. We're both super excited about this. This whole being apart thing has been a lot harder than either one of us had anticipated. To make things even worse, Dan is "in the field" this week so I can't talk to him. Lame. I have to take care of all of this super obnoxious car, apartment, and life stuff without him. Stupid.

On a much happier note, my birthday is tomorrow! Yay! Dan's mom sent me a gift which was so awesome and so nice! I really married Dan for his family, lets be honest. They are all so amazing and I just love them. So, that really made my day today.

If you got all the way to the end of this, I applaud you. Thanks for reading.

Camp

So, my new calling in our Ward is Assistant Camp Director. Not to be confused with Assistant TO the Camp Director. Lately, because of this, I've been thinking about my girl's camp experiences. I loved girl's camp. Seriously, what a blast. Unfortunately I could only find 2 pictures to document my good time.

I'm the lady in red

Eat your heart out.

Our New Baby

Our "new to us" car!! yay!
Yes, it is yellow. And yes, it's stick shift, but we love it anyway just the way it is.
So, the majority of my week has been spent learning to drive this lemon.
Dan leaves for boot camp on Sunday for 6 weeks. :(
Lianne is now a Clements. Yay!!!
We can barely afford living with all the curve balls life has been throwing at us lately, but what doesn't kill you, only brings you closer.
We got to spend a whole week with my family for Lianne's wedding.
While in Dallas, we were camping in Jill's living room in our brand new tent!

Chris and Blaire were also camping in the living room.
Chris snores and the earplugs were less than mediocre. Haha.
Dan and I are scrambling to get everything done before he leaves.
I'm struggling to keep my composure and be supportive because I'm going to miss him so much, and selfishly I don't want him to leave.
But, amidst all the stress and trials, we are so incredibly blessed.
So, that's the update. Our life is pretty stressful right now and busy, but we're still disgustingly happy. :)

This is what happens...

When your alarm that you set on your phone doesn't go off:

You wake up late and panic

Don't get to shower cause you have to rush

Miss your flight to SLC for your brother-in-law's wedding

And are tired and exhausted the whole rest of the day.

We missed Mike's sealing, but only just barely. From sprinting across Temple Square, we were able to make it into some of the pictures. No promises on how good we look in those. Gross. But, other than that, our trip to Utah was a lot of fun. We got to spend some quality time with Dan's family and eat lunch with my Grandparents. All in all a really good vacation. It was just that one day, really, that wasn't so great. Chantale looked beautiful and they both looked so happy, so that's all that really matters. I have another sister! I think that makes 6 now. Wow.

Another side effect: No time for contacts. Lol. Isn't he handsome? I love him.

The one blog to rule them all

Hey fellow bloggers and bloggees.  I'm blogging like I never blogged before.  I think I've studied so much my brain cells are actually undergoing autolysis.  Our new garden is doing pretty well, but one of the tomatoe plants might not make it.  I can't afford advanced medical care for the little guy since the municipal court of Haysville decided they needed 400 dollars of my money to purchase antidepressants for their secretaries.  Our soccer team won the kansas state intramural indoor soccer tournament, and I can't seem to get Manchester United to stop calling me with lucrative contract offers.  Seriously.  Plus, I seem to have lost the skill to fold my laundry so I move the pile everyday from the coach to the bed to the chair to the coach again.  Its the laundry migration of shame, but I can't muster enough OCD power to change it.  That's all I got for now.

Attention!!

Apparently my comment thing hasn't been working. Sad times. So, hopefully I fixed it.

Here's what's been going on:

We went down to Wichita this weekend for my mom's birthday, and that was a lot of fun. We saw Wolverine which was sooo awesome! Plus, we were able to take my mom to Red Lobster for her birthday, she really loves Red Lobster. I kind of love my family.

It's been raining for like a week straight here, which is miserable if you have a swamp for a car. BUT! We finally bought a car cover the beginning of this week, so it hasn't gotten any wetter, it just hasn't gotten dryer either. I think it's supposed to be sunny today though, so maybe now it'll dry out. We affectionately now call my car swamp thing. :)

This week is "dead week" and next week is finals!! Almost done!

K-State

Okay, this University could not make me any more mad. Seriously? On Tuesday I went with Dan to the Rec to watch his soccer game. No biggie, we do this EVERY WEEK. So when I get up to the front and they swipe my student ID card that I have had for 3 years, there shouldn't be a problem. right? wrong. Apparently it wasn't working so they sent me to the office. The lady in the office told me that this same ID that i've had my whole college career isn't valid and the numbers don't match, blah blah blah, and have I gotten a new one recently? No, I haven't in case you were wondering. Long story short, I was really upset, she took my card, I stomped back out to the entrance to the Rec where I, not so politely, ask the girl if I could just go in and watch my husband's soccer game. She let me. Some people aren't incompetent. Today I went into the ID center to figure it out and guess who was right? ME!! That lady owes me an ID card.

My professor in Shakespeare sometimes shows films of the plays that we are reading in order to give extra credit. Today he was showing Othello at 4:30, so i'm thinking awesome! extra credit! Apparently the film is rated R, so I emailed him to ask him if there was some alternative thing I could do or if he would be showing any other movies because I don't watch rated R movies, and instead of being understanding and sympathetic he was mean and totally degraded me. What the heck? He told me that it's a college level course so he can't guarantee the rating, and by the way, many students had seen this film and the sexual content was really mild for an R movie. What? I don't care if it's mild for an R movie! It's still in there! ya jerk. Wow, so now I'm done venting. Sorry about that.

Dan and I are both doing well. He has a test tomorrow, so he's cramming right now. I hope we get to actually eat something for dinner. This should be interesting, we haven't been grocery shopping. lol. Other than that, things are pretty dull. EXCEPT! OMG! I forgot! We got our beautiful dark wood dinner table today! Yay!!! One thing at a time.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Wow, that was weird

I was walking back to our apartment yesterday when I passed a man taking his snake on a walk. No, I'm not making this up. He was just walking around having a great time with this giant snake draped over his shoulders. So, as I am about to pass this guy, trying to give somewhat of a wide birth cause I don't know the striking range of a snake, I find myself wondering how I can become that confident. I mean, he's walking a snake. He obviously knows who he is and is totally okay with it and does not care at all about what other people think. Anyways, that was weird. Thought I would share.

1 month

On Saturday we will have been married for a month! Can you believe it? Okay, you probably can, but we can't. Time flies I guess, and in other ways it doesn't at all. It feels like we just got married yesterday and at the same time it feels like it's been forever. Interesting.

EXCITING NEWS!!!!

We bought a bed!! I had to do some Dan arm twisting, but dangit we bought a bed! The mattresses will be here on Saturday (I may cry) and the frame will be here like a week and a half later (I may tear up). I'm so SICK of sleeping on the stupid air mattress! AH! So, yay! We also now have a tv stand, a tv, a bookshelf, and are looking for a real table. We're becoming grown ups. We're nervous about is, so it's okay if you are.

This is the bedstead I decided on. I LOVE it.

This is actually not the mattress we bought. There wasn't a picture of it, just know that ours is better and it rocks.

Mike and Chantale (Dan's brother and his fiancee) are getting married the day after our finals are over and then Lianne and Derek are getting hitched the first week of June. May 16 and June 6. Seriously people? Good luck to us and our bank accounts!

IN OTHER NEWS

I might actually be dying of exhaustion. I'll keep you posted. ;)

Not much to Talk About

I think I'll make some cake today. Some good 'ole fashioned chocolate cake. After that, perhaps i'll do my homework, but maybe not. Go to school, be bored to tears, pick dan up from school, go grocery shopping cause we're starving, try my hardest to put that TV stand together, and just generally veg out the rest of the evening. I'm thinking I'm going to make chili tonight cause it's raining. OOOHHH! and corn bread.

Here's a funny/ extremely frustrating anecdote for everyone. So, it's been raining for the last couple of days and my car leaks. Like crazy. Dan and I went home this weekend for Easter and while we were there my car sat outside while it rained and rained. When Sunday came around and it was time to leave, my car was soaked on the inside. We had to do a quick patch up job in the garage and then cover the whole interior in towels. This worked for about.... 30 minutes? The whole 2 hour ride home we were being dripped on and constantly trying to keep ourselves dry. At first, it was really irritating and we were both pretty upset, but then it just got ridiculously hilarious. How much worse could it possibly get? So we just laughed. Hopefully everyone gets a good laugh out of our pain.

I can't help myself

So, Aerie keeps sending me these emails and usually I ignore them. No problem. Not today folks. I opened that email and I could not help myself after that. In a couple of days I will be the proud owner of:

Don't judge me.

Yeah...

Sorry about not posting anything. Here's a glimpse into our lives as of late:

I get out of school/work and run over and pick Dan up from school. We get home and do 1 of 2 things: Lay on the floor for a couple minutes and talk about our days, or do the dishes. He then proceeds to study for the rest of the entire evening while I either do my homework or watch a movie. He takes 10 minute breaks every once in a while, so it isn't so bad. Most days I make dinner, but sometimes I'm too tired so I order something. Then, we read our scriptures, say our prayers, and go to bed. Done.

Exhilarating no? It has been a lot of fun though, this being married thing. It honestly isn't a whole lot different, except that he or I never go home. We just stay. lol. We are probably the most boring married couple of all time though. That's okay, as long as we're boring together right? Being in the family ward is different. Very different. Luckily for us, the branch is getting married off like crazy so we have lots of friends there already.

This weekend we came home to Wichita for our reception and general conference. I love being around my family. I just simply don't deserve all the things they do for me.

Finally, a HUGE shout-out to Chris and Blaire. The recipe book you gave me is the reason that Dan is being fed. Thanks!
